So you want to learn a new craft? As a craft instructor, I think that’s terrific. However, there are a few things to consider before beginning a new craft. You should research the craft of choice to find out what is involved before diving into the situation. Following are a few questions that will help you prepare for your craft adventure.
1.How expensive are the tools? Many crafts require minimal start up tools which will greatly reduce the cost for you to begin the new craft. Craft kits often include everything you need to complete small projects.
2. Have you considered the cost of supplies such as fabric, yarn, paint or thread that will be required to complete your projects? Look for small projects to begin with as this will not only keep the cost down for you but will also allow you to complete a project quickly. By beginning with a small project, you can also determine if you will enjoy this craft or not before investing much money.
3. In the event that you might enjoy the craft of choice, do you have enough space to store the tools? Although many crafts require minimal start up tools and supplies, you may want to move to advanced levels as your skills improve which in turn may require having more tools and supplies on hand. Knowing ahead of time whether you’ll need extra drawer space or the space of an entire room will make expansion easier.
4. Do you have the space required to create your projects? Projects such as looming may require a great deal of space. Projects like this can’t be completed in a day and can’t be torn down to finish another day so will require an area where your work can be left undisturbed – sometimes for a number of days.
5. Can you contact the instructor? Websites like www.ECraftClasses.com provide ways for you to contact your instructor. I highly recommend this path when you’re beginning a new craft as many questions do arise. You may not have this option with a pattern you purchase from, or class you take at, a local craft store.

I have always enjoyed crafting. I began crafting seriously about 11 years ago and have pursued and accomplished many dreams - not without the help and support of others of course. More than anything I enjoy teaching others what I learn as I go.
